Elvis George Yagomba

Mr Yagomba is a UK qualified Barrister of 22 years standing, having been called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2003 at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

His extensive background includes serving as the Head of Legal Services of AXA Insurance UK Plc, which is the UK insurance arm of the AXA Group, the world’s largest insurance company by net written premiums. During his tenure at AXA, he led the expansion of the Legal Services Unit from one employee (him) to a robust team of 36 professionals, including Barristers, Solicitors, Legal Executives, Paralegals, Trainee Solicitors, and Law Graduates. This team, regulated by the UK Solicitors Regulation Authority, managed a portfolio worth £100 million pounds and an annual insurance outlay of £15 million pounds. Within just seven years from inception and utilising a sophisticated legal case management system designed and written by Mr Yagomba, his team was handling the highest litigation rates in the entire UK insurance industry, defending 12,000 court cases and issuing 19,000 court proceedings annually. The expansion rate was so fast that with referral from the local Gloucestershire County Courts, his team was granted early access to the UK County Court Bulk Centre (CCBC), allowing them to issue court proceedings directly from within the UK Court System.

His other background experience includes being part-owner of Evesa Holdings with his sister, which until around 2016, was the sole distributor for Airtel in Kenya covering the Eastern regions including Kangundo, Kathiani, Mwala, Matuu, Tala etc with an annual turnover of a quarter of a billion Kenyan shillings.

He was also director of Acardia Energy UK Ltd & Acardia Investments (pty) Ltd (Botswana), which was part of a formidable consortium involved in the 2013 bidding to design, finance, construct, own, Operate and maintain a 300MW (2 X 150MW) Morupule B Phase II Units 5 & 6 (cost of around $1.6 billion dollars).

Mr Yagomba was also part of the founding claims team of Swiftcover Insurance Services Limited, which saw an expansion of a brand new insurance company in the UK with zero policies, to 1 million policy holders in less than four years (2005 – 2009). He became Head of Legal Services for Swiftcover Legal Services Unit, which in 2009 morphed into AXA Insurance Legal Services unit upon purchase of Swiftcover by AXA.

Mr Yagomba currently owns EGY UK Limited (EGY), a UK registered consultancy firm that he founded in 2018. He replicated his previous experiences, by taking EGY from zero pounds to a turnover of £10.5 million pounds in less than 6 years, and currently ongoing at a turnover of between £2 to £3 million pounds per annum. Part of his work involves consultancy advice in securing funding for large scale (£10M+) renewable energy and infrastructure projects particularly in Africa. He also provides advisory services to UK start-up law firms on structures, litigation strategies, and case management systems and operations. He also specialises on UK tax policies and procedures, specifically on input VAT for purchases in the UK and impact of Brexit on its recoverability.

Mr Yagomba also owns smallclaimsguide.com through which he conducts pro-bono cases for litigants in person with a 100% success rate and hundreds of thousands of pounds in compensation achieved so far for his clients. One of his probono cases achieved one of the highest disability discrimination compensation amounts in the UK for that year, and winning a landmark ruling at the UK Employment Appeal Tribunal First Greater Western Ltd & Mr J Linley v Miss R Waiyego: UKEAT/0056/18/RN
